Getting in Shape for Summer

After all the fattening sweets and large meals of winter, most people have a little more weight packed on than they would like. Many people make a goal to get into shape during the spring time so they look good in a bathing suit when summer arrives, but that can be a little easier said than done. The problem is that most people don’t know how to put together a plan to achieve their weight loss goals much less have the will power to stick to it. If you’re going to be successful at getting in shape for summer, you need to know how to do it and what to expect along the way.

Why Get in Shape?

There are a number of reasons that you might want to get into shape for summer. Most people are trying to achieve fitness for vanity reasons, meaning they want to look good while using sparklers at a party on the 4th of July or want to look good in their swimsuit at the beach. While that can be great motivation, the real benefit is improved health because being overweight can cause all sorts of other issues. From diabetes to high blood pressure, the impact on your health when you’re overweight should be reason enough to get into shape before summer arrives.

Diet

The first prong to reaching your fitness goals by summer is to adopt a healthy diet. Any good diet should be high in protein and lower in saturated fats and simple carbohydrates. Instead of eating bread and potatoes with every meal, try to eat more brown and wild rice. Try to kick red meats to the curb for the most part and stick to lean meats like fish and chicken. Also, make sure you eat plenty of vegetables as part of your new diet because they are a great source of carbohydrates that your body can burn through easily. Whenever you feel hungry, just eat as many vegetables your body will allow and watch those pounds fall off quickly.

Exercise

The second prong that you need to pay attention to is exercise. There are two reasons that exercise helps you lose extra weight, and the first is that you will be burning more calories. Every time that you run on a treadmill or lift some weights, you will be burning extra calories that your body normally wouldn’t. If you keep your diet the same and add exercise, you will reduce the number of calories your body can store as fat and it will help you lose weight.

Secondly, exercising boosts your metabolism; especially if you time your workouts correctly. The best way to do this is to go for a walk or a job in the morning before breakfast to get your body in the mindset of burning calories. Then later in the evening when your body would normally start shutting down to start its rest cycle, you do some cardio to get it back into calorie-burning mode. This will help keep your metabolism high throughout the entire day so your body naturally uses more calories and you can lose weight.

Fat Burning Pills

If you choose something herbal and use them responsibly, fat burning pills can be a great supplement to help you achieve your goals before summer arrives. However, all too often people choose very harsh brands of fat burners that can hurt your liver and cause long term damage to your body. Your best bet is to avoid any product that uses stimulants to boost your metabolism because these are the toxic chemicals that can hurt your body. Instead, choose herbal supplements that help to curb your appetite and block the absorption of carbohydrates, and always stay within the recommended dose and duration of use. Remember, fat burners only help with proper diet and exercise and should be used as a support tool; not a complete solution.
